Uncommon Goods: They’re of the Ordinary

Being born in the 70’s, gift-giving and shopping in general included possibly a trip to Mervyn’s, Montgomery Wards, Walden Books, Tower Records…what was there is what you got. Fast forward to the 90’s and 00’s and beyond – “shopping local” has its own holiday, further emphasizing the era where most of us buy everything online. I live in a small town and put an emphasis on shopping local – but then rolls around a day that you find yourself faced with gift-giving for people who, almost quite literally, have EVERYTHING. These are the times I turn to the net in full force in an effort to find THE PERFECT GIFT for those who make gift-giving feel like an Olympic Sport. My go-to online shop when I am struggling to nail down THE thing – is Uncommon Goods.

Just like the name says, you can find the personalized, unique, off-beat, funny, and, well, uncommon. What I REALLY love is the site features the works of independent artists/designers – allowing maybe otherwise unknown talents to showcase their work! So, big-site, but with a focus on the individual – win!

My Uncommon Gift Finds For The Family

One person who tops my “OMG, what do I get this person?” list is my brother. Every year I search high and low, trying to find anything he would like – not since I found Uncommon Goods! He loves to garden but is in no way a “garden gnome” kinda guy. So, this year I got him this cool seat+tool holder and all-new tools to go with it. It was love at first seat! (sorry, I know, bad bad joke).

Next, let’s talk about My MOM! Talk about someone who has everything x 10. I know no one else with as many kitchen items as my mom. If the world ever runs out of bowls or baking dishes, give me a holler, and I will hit her up. She also struggles with clutter, so we all tend to shy away from ANYthing that has to go on a counter, shelf, or wall. Can you see how this starts to become a challenge!!?? I got her this puzzle and chose her birth date cover. She loved it, and it was a CHALLENGE to put together; then we read the articles – really neat! I will say she ended up sealing it, framing it, and putting it on her wall. The woman cannot help herself!

Can’t Find A Gift? Give An Experience!

With such a diverse inventory – I give kudos to the folks at Uncommon Goods for being the wizards of product organization! They really do have something for everyone! And it’s not just uncommon “items” either! You can buy experiences too, which cover a whole range of things from A Painting By Numbers Date Night to Learning Halloween Tarot Reading, which make perfect birthday gifts. Or something like a Tie Dye Class for your friends with kiddos!

I tried my hardest, but I couldn’t help myself from including a few things in my cart here and there to use at home. (I somehow always manage to do this when I am supposed to be shopping for gifts) But – I can’t wait to see the kid’s reaction to Family Game Night with this gem – which is PERFECT for Halloween & just in time!

Dive in and make sure you have some time to kill or you WILL be late to whatever you were scheduled to do next – you’ll get sucked in!!! Always happens to me 🙂  Go forth and be Uncommon at Uncommon Goods!
